Best XL Dog Houses
Best XL dog houses
As far as I know, this is the first article that tackles XL dog houses. The question is how well it will be received.
The XL Dog House looks like a good idea. It is not much bigger than a standard house, but it has two rooms: one for the dog and one for the owner. The room for the dog has a door in it instead of windows, so when the owner goes out at night he can close the dog in with him. It also has an access hatch so the owner can get in without opening the door to his own room. Such things are not new; they have existed for years under other names. But they are not commonly marketed to the public. Apple started selling them at its stores last year; Amazon sells them on its website (though I haven't seen any XL models among its offerings).
Dog houses are usually sold through doggie day care centers; it's easier to sell them there than to sell them by mail order or directly to individual owners, since there is no risk of backorders or returns. XL houses may find their way into pet stores (that would be their first stop after Amazon), where they will compete with ordinary pet houses; but even if they do, pet stores are not likely to carry many of them.
For a dog, a walk is a chance to get out of the house. But what about a dog house? The standard wire-mesh doghouse isn't much fun for a dog to sleep in. It looks like a birdcage, and dogs can't really curl up in it. More importantly, it's not very comfortable for the owner either. Dogs don't care about human comfort; they want to be outside.
